Infogram

Image
Infogram https://infogram.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): if students are experiencing an infographic, the level might be “Understand” as they review the infographic and add to their knowledge on a subject.  The level jumps to “Create” if they are actually making the infographic to organize and share their understanding with others.  Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): If students are viewing an infographic created by the instructor, it probably fits into the “Demonstration” areas of the Cone.  But, if students are creating with Infogram, then the level changes to at least “Contrived Experiences” if they are creating something for a case study or “Direct, purposeful experience” if they are sharing information about content in the course or real-life information that they have researched. Integration of tool for teaching and learning: Infogram provides the ability to create interactive infographics to share information on a topic in an...

Kahoot!

Image
Kahoot! https://kahoot.com/schools-u/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): Student actions in Kahoot appear to be on the lower order thinking skills end of the taxonomy, in “Recall,” “Understand,” and “Apply.”  It is possible that one could consider choosing among the available answers as  “Analyze” or “Evaluate”, but that seems overly generous. Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): Participating in Kahoot puts students at the more active, participative end of the Cone, somewhere within “Dramatic Participation,” “Contrived Experiences,” and “Direct, Purposeful Experiences.”  They are participating in recalling what they have learned, or sharing an opinion, or demonstrating their understanding. Just answering is not very creative, but it does call on the student to think critically, evaluate the question, and act based on their knowledge. Integration of tool for teaching and learning: Kahoot provides instructors with a tool for quizzing and survey...

Google Forms

Image
Google Forms https://docs.google.com/forms/u/0/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): Building and launching a form puts a student right at the level of “Create”, with the results of the survey able to be worked with at each level moving downward in the taxonomy. Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): If a student creates a form to be completed by classmates or other participants, that action is a “direct, purposeful experience” of interacting with others through a form and learning their thoughts and responses on the topic of the form.  Experiencing just the responses from the form without building it puts a student more at the “exhibits” or “demonstrations” section of the Cone. Integration of tool for teaching and learning: Google Forms is an essential tool for not just displaying or analyzing a concept, but for actually collecting survey data so that it can be considered in understanding a topic. Teachers and students can create forms on any given topic, ...

Popplet

Image
Popplet https://www.popplet.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): Popplet could be used for every point in Bloom's Taxonomy depending on how it was utilized:  students could view a Popplet created by an instructor or a fellow student to use to "remember" content, while student-created Popplets give students the experience of showing and growing their "understanding" of a concept.  The act of "creating" a Popplet exhibits the highest level skill, also allowing  a student to "evaluate" and "analyze" content and concepts, while "applying" lessons and skills they were previously taught.   Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): A teacher-created or peer-created graphical organizer in Popplet could be experienced at the point of "exhibits" or "demonstrations" on the Cone.  If students are building their own Popplets as graphical organizers and adding additional content and sub-concepts...

Gliffy

Image
Gliffy https://www.gliffy.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): Gliffy could run the gamut of Bloom's Taxonomy depending on how it was utilized:  students could be given a completed organizer to help them "remember" content that was already presented in a different manner, they could "create" their own organizer and use it to "evaluate" a concept, "analyze" the elements of a concept by comparing and contrasting them, "apply" skills in doing the above activities, and show that they "understand" the concepts address by working out their own way of organizing items.  Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): Students could experience a prepared graphical organizer at the point of "exhibits" or "demonstrations," but in having students build their own graphical organizers there is potential for "dramatic participation" and "contrived experiences" along with "dire...

Podomatic

Image
Podomatic https://www.podomatic.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): With the student as a listener to podcasts: "Understand, analyze, evaluate"; With the student as a podcaster: "Create, Apply" Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): "radio, recordings, still pictures" if a student is just listening; with the student as podcaster, it  could be anywhere between "direct purposeful experience" through "demonstrations." Integration of tool for teaching and learning: Podomatic makes it easy for instructors and students to produce podcasts.  Instructors can created podcasts of lectures or review materials for students to listen to outside of class or before tests.  Podcasts have a low barrier for entry in that they use open source software and there is much free instructional content on how to do it.  So, students can also get involved in creating podcasts as individuals or in groups  Podomatic offers shared projects ...

Lucidchart

Image
Lucidchart https://www.lucidchart.com/pages/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): "Create, Evaluate, Analyze, Apply" (depending on task assigned to the student) Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): "Demonstrations" through "Direct, Purposeful experiences" (depending on task assigned) Integration of Tool for Teaching and Learning: Lucidchart has many uses.  It is a tool for creating online diagrams, and has a large library of symbols and templates to help with this.  It can also be used as a mind mapping tool for brainstorming, or to create Venn diagrams, flowcharts, and timelines.  Instructors may use it to visually depict class content in terms of processes or relationships among elements and concepts and share them with students either inside of Lucidchart or embedded in other documents and tools (Google Docs, for example).  If kept inside Lucidchart, an online diagram can be contributed to by an entire class or a group of students....

VoiceThread

Image
VoiceThread https://voicethread.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom’s Taxonomy): "Understand" if students are watching and listening to instructor created slide sets.  Student could use it to "Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, and Create" depending on the assignment.  Type of Learning experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): Demonstrations from instructor or student who created the VoiceThread Integration of Tool for Teaching and Learning; VoiceThread may be used by instructors to create recorded lectures with slides that are automatically captioned.  This makes them easy to share with students in remote learning or for students to review apart from a class setting.  In addition, students are able to comment on VoiceThreads to ask questions or respond to instructor prompts.  Students may also create their own VoiceThreads as class presentations.  This can be done by individuals, or the sharing capabilities of VoiceThread lets a group of students work together on a g...

Flip (formerly Flipgrid)

Image
Flip (formerly Flipgrid) https://info.flip.com/ Type of Learning (Bloom's Taxonomy): Could work with any level of the taxonomy, depending on what they student is asked to record in their video:  could be anything from recounting what they remember about a topic, to demonstrating their understanding in a presentation, to applying content and demonstrating that in a video, analyzing  situation in a video, evaluating a situation, or even creating a video to demonstrate their understanding of a topic/concept. Type of Learning Experience (Dale’s Cone of Experience): Seems to fit somewhere in the middle of the Cone (Exhibits, Field Trips, Demonstrations) if students are watching the work of other students showing their work or watching the instructor demonstrate actions or visit places.  But, can involve the student who is recording a video in options further down the Cone (Dramatic Participation, Contrived Experiences, Direct Purposeful Experiences) if student is asked ...
